Generally speaking doing hard reset is better for your PC than power off/on, right? Can you list all the reasons and specifics. I only know something vaguely about the HDD.

Something like with the power off it's bad for the HDD to power the PC back on when it hasn't fully spinned down. And generally it's better for the HDD to be on all the time rather than constantly spinning it up and down. With the reset its work isn't interrupted that way?

What about other components and how accurate my above statement is?

I don't think it really matters for component stress. Some computers don't even come with a reset button. The only time I can see a hard reset causing damage is if you have open applications that are running. At least with a normal 'reset' you give the OS time to finish while it ends task.

don't think it matters for an HDD. They have a dead zone where the heads will automatically move to when power is turned off.

Lets assume you have both buttons. My understanding is reset would be better for your PC rather than using the power button for the same function. But it doesn't really make a difference?

in theory there is thermal expansion that can occur when components cool down then later get hot. neither scenario will cause thermal expansion. doubt it would lead to any failures anyway. but if am am getting 'errors' then I would turn off the powersupply, as there may be things on the motherboard that are not quite cleared via reset button.
