Res Inlet Wrong Position?

Hey guys, just recently built my first custom watercooling rig. So far it's an awesome experience and there are no leaks! But I have a question about my config.

I bought a pump top, mod kit and res and I think my configuration is wrong. Currently, the config is res > pump > cpu block > rad > res. But the inlet from the rad to the res is going to the mod kit as shown in the pic below. Should I reposition it to the top of the res instead?

Also, I need to drain it.. What would you guys suggest on how to do it easily in my config? What I'm thinking is just remove the res' cover and just invert it (the whole kit is just velcro'd). Any more good ideas would be helpful.
 
There's no need to change where the inlet is if the flow of water is unimpeded.

As for draining it, inverting the reservoir would work, since you have a good amount of tubing to play with. If you want to make it easier in the future, make a t-line.
 
Awesome, because yesterday when I was stress testing it, the tube going to the cpu block felt warm.

I might not have planned it well enough and forgot about the draining part. I was focus on a cleaner look than functionality. lol. Thanks for the advice.

Any reason's why you'd prefer it to the top of the res? I was thinking about that too where I move it up top and use the other inlet will be my fill/drain port.

Heat rises and that is why I like to put my hot water at the top inlet of a tube style reservoir.


I also like to use the top inlet for inlet flow because air bubbles rise and the outlet going to pump at the bottom will have greater chance of not sucking up air bubbles.
 
Thanks! I'll be updating my loop this weekend. I noticed that my flow order might be improved by going res > pump > rad > cpu instead of res> pump > cpu > rad.
 
Flow direction doesn't matter (outside of res > pump), just route the shortest length possible.
