I have THIS mobo, a ABIT IP35-Pro

I'm looking to get in on the Sandisk Extreme 240GB

What are the performance differences with my older mobo
 
It will top out around 250MB/s I believe, instead of 500+. Time to get a new build, LGA 775 can't really keep up anymore.

Now, that said, it'll still be a big improvement over a mechanical drive... but if you're going to stick with that build for a long time yet I'd suggest buying an older SATA2 SSD used off someone in the forums here for cheap.
 
I would still get the SATA III SSD. The reason why you get a SSD is not the 500 MB/s numbers but the random 4K reads / writes, and IOPs. If you look at these most SATA III drives are not limited by the SATA II interface since during random operations they do not need the bandwith SATA III provides.
