Some people have heard me mention I am asking for surplus parts
(begging...) from my work, it is pretty for sure. But just to give them
an idea about what they will be used for I composed the following and
thought that someone else might be able to use it as well if they are
trying to beg/steal/borrow parts from work/friends/family etc.
Granted, the quote is somewhat old, but the people I am talking with remeber how
cool it was to get a 400mhz machine.. (or even when they came out with MMX!)
And... every little bit helps the [H]orde...
pwned!!

This is the webpage for the Distributed Computing group I am using all my spare CPU cycles for:
http://folding.stanford.edu/
Just to give you a little idea of what it is I am talking about
And I am currently part of the [H]ard|Forum DC Team (#33) and as a team we are placed
second overall (behind the Australian Overclockers).
Currently I am:
ranked: 13,401 of 437,443 (total donators)
ranked in team: 579 of 7,422
"Points": 31,125
Work Units (WU): 258
And just an interesting fact:
"Simple proteins assemble in about 10,000 nanoseconds, and one 400MHz computer can simulate 1 nanosecond of assembly time in about a day, Pande said. This means 1,000 participants would be needed to simulate a simple protein fold in 10 days, and that's just for simple folds. More complex proteins can take far longer. "
Just thought this would be something interesting since sometimes we are caught up in just using the
computer just to get "work" done, but you can still use them for good things!
(it is helpful when your new apt has utilities (electricity) included in the rent)
