Ok, I found out that with children... one needs to limit buttons that light up at night. This resulted in taking down my 5.1 setup (started in 03, HK AVR-520, Bose (yes, yes... I found out the hard way) 710x2, 301x2 and VCS-10, combined with my Velodyne CHT-10. About 3 years ago, I realized that I preferred headphones (closed) for gaming and music (they block out Sesame Street, Barney, Thomas the Train, all god-awful pre-teen Disney and Nic shows). For this I used my Elite-Pro -> Audio GD Compass -> Denon 7000, and Kiplish Promedia 5.1's (still works like a gem!)
After updating to an EVGA Z68 FTW, I could no longer had any PCI slots, and I've suffered with onboard sound for 4+ months. Yesterday I purchased a Titanium HD, and while I was at it, why not see if my old 520 would still work with it... I figured I'd use the headphone out for my cans, keep the Velodyne sub, and use the remaining Kiplish speakers for my pc 5.1 sound........
5 hours later... I cannot get my receiver to recognize more than 2 channels using TOS-link optical-in/out. Using this, the "Surr. Off", "PCM", "Stereo" are lit up, and I am only seeing "L", and "R" as enabled speakers. If I play a Blu-Ray that has DTS, DTS will enable, but still only in 2 channels still. Accessing DDL/DTS Connect is not an option in either game / entertainment mode. I have the S/PDIF input under DVD, Optical 1 in the receiver, and the analog out to Tape (for headphones use only)
Via Windows (7 Pro), When I click on Speakers, I enable 5.1, but again, the sound will only appear in R/L front channels only.
With SPDIF Out (SB X-Fi), Properties, Supported Formats has both DTS audio and DD enabled, and yet with testing both, still only get sound from the R/L front speakers.
What else can I do, or should do? I really enjoyed how the Elite Pro did 5.1 on my Kiplish 5.1's and I think I was expecting the same. I have a feeling I'm loosing EAX as well by using a receiver (learning that really is not as big a deal as before). Primary usage is about 50/50 for gaming (BF3, SC2, CS:S) and music (mostly FLAC), with some Blu-Ray as well. When the kids are gone, I use the 5.1's, but when they are home / asleep using headphones.
Thanks for any advice on this...
