Replacing volume knob potentiometer?

My klipsch 4.1 speaker volume knob can't be remedied anymore. Several years ago, some wd-40 cured the scratchy noise. Now it can't be cured, even with contact cleaner sprayed inside the potentiometer. it's back with a vengeance. Speakers still work, but the scratch is annoying.

This is a quad pot 50k ohm, made by KIE. Has 12 pins soldered.

the part is impossible to find. Can another part be substituted?

You can use any potentiometer with the same electrical specs - but you may have a problem fitting the potentiometer legs in the soldering slots. Especially if the new pot has a different order of legs! :)

It's a miracle that the potentiometer has worked this long if you sprayed regular WD-40 in it. You're supposed to use a special electronics/potentiometer cleaner spray which doesn't gunk up the pot.

If you do not require an actual volume control, you can substitute the potentiometer with fixed resistors of a suitable resistance. An ideal volume control is actually a step switch with varying steps of resistance. That's the easyest way to get a super accurate result without buying a 100 buck pot.
