Replacing my Dell 2001FP

I've had a Dell 2001FP for over 6 years, and I'm getting the upgrade itch. I can't say that this monitor isn't performing up to snuff (I still really like the PQ), but I work all day on dual 24" HP LP 2465s and I'm getting spoiled by the extra real estate. My wife has one of the Hanns-G 28"ers -- screen size is great, but I'm not a big fan of the picture quality.

I noticed some ghosting on my 2001FP, but it never really bothered me. I don't think I'd want any monitor that is slower than my 2001 FP.

Any recommendations for gaming and general use? Are there good TN panels out there, or will I be disappointed if I use my 2001FP and HP LP 2465 as a benchmark? Is there any noticable difference between 16:9 and 16:10? Is there a sweet spot between size and price? I can afford whatever budget, but I always prefer deals over blindly buying the top of the line.

Thanks!

I have used several 2001FPs over the last five years, and still use one to this day. You will definitely be disappointed with anything less than a VA or IPS panel, as well as anything with less than 1200 pixels of vertical resolution. I had the 2001FP running in a triple configuration next to an LG L2000C and a 2007FP (both S-IPS) and despite its age, the 2001FP held its own.

The LP2465 is still a viable choice, and can be found used/refurbished for <$200. I loved mine until I upgraded to an LP3065.

I have not personally used a U2410 or the HP ZR24W, but my wife recently replaced her 2007WFP (S-IPS version) with a ZR22W, and absolutely loves it. I would not recommend the ZR22W simply because you will miss the 120 pixels of vertical resolution, but if the ZR24W is anything like its smaller sibling with respect to image quality, it should be a suitable monitor for you.

Of course, if you can justify the cost, you cannot go wrong with 2560x1600. Plus, you could rotate your 2001FP and still have a dual monitor setup. Currently, I am running my LP3065 next to a 2007FP in portrait, and find that unless I am crunching some serious data, the LP3065 alone is enough.

Edit: With respect to response time, I think you would be hard-pressed to find any monitor >8ms, vs. the 16ms of the 2001FP.
