Replacing DVD Player/Receiver for 5.1 Setup

My girlfriend's dvd player/surround receiver is going to shit. It won't play a disc unless it's in pristine condition, and sometimes not even then.

Amazon Prime to the rescue!

I need to get her a silver unit to match her setup, but being totally ignorant to a lot of this stuff I just want to make sure I'm getting her the right thing.

Do you guys have any suggestions as to a good replacement? I'd like to get her Blu-Ray player just to keep up with the times, but she swears she won't ever buy them. :)
 
Not sure if you have your eye on a specific bluray player, but I've gone the route of a HTPC, albeit I have dual GTX 580's and a 2600K @ around 5ghz. What worked for me was an LG Bluray / CD-DVD ROM drive paired to a Pioneer 500w home theater receiver and Arcsoft TMT 5 Platinum. How have you been Mr DH Grim? ..LOL!
