Replacing an LCD with... a CRT

I know you are looking for a CRT, but I'd like to suggest an alternative anyway. Have you considered LCD screens with extremely good interpolation quality? For example, the Dell 2709W is very good in that aspect. Will allow you to play games at lower resolutions and in a 4:3 ratio if needed. By not running at the native resolution you will lose some sharpness obviously, but good interpolation will really help and since LCDs are already much sharper than CRTs, it's not that much of an issue.

I hate to resurrect an older thread but I have an NEC FP2141SB that's in excellent condition. How much do you think I could sell it for?

I am trying to dump two of my 21" tube monitor now. Sadly nobody even wants them as I posted them on craiglist.

One is a flat screen tube.

I didnt think people would want them.

For one thing, they are SOB heavy!

If I am not mistaken I think I still have 1 maybe 2 Sony CRTs still laying around somewhere at my parents house, back from my gaming glory days (QIII, CS 1.6). I would basically get rid of these things for almost no cost for you except for shipping (NYC, USA). If you are interested I will stop by my parents house and see if I can find them.

I'd gladly swap out the 19" I have sitting here with a somewhat newer/better CRT. Unfortunately I live in Europe :)

This is indeed old thread, but I dont really understand what is the problem with OP and widescreen monitors? His monitors native resolution is 1680x1050 widescreen resolution, yes, but it also has 4:3 equivalent (no scaling) 1400x1050 which you can use on older games. And if your monitor stretches it for some reason, enable 1:1 pixel mapping in your monitors OSD if available OR enable GPU scaling in your graphics card. Voila, perfect 4:3 picture in its true size, no widescreen stretching nor blurry scaling what so ever.

CRTs are definitely better for competitive gaming.

Games where skill doesn't matter like Bioshock or medic/engi classes in TF2 are fine with LCDs.

But if you're going to snipe/scout in TF2 or play Counter-strike 1.6, CRT has huge advantages.

I can't get my Samsung 955DF drivers to install on windows 7 though so I can't use 100hz+ refresh rates.

The FW900 pops up on Craigslist every once in a while. There's one near me but the guy says it's branded HP. I'm going to check it out. Hopefully it runs all right.

The difference isn't so great anymore , my Samsung 2233rz beats my old CRT hands down for gaming , its sharper , brighter , requires no geometry adjustments , uses far less power and is something I can bring over a friends house without breaking my back.

I would probably buy the FW900 for its higher resolutions plus high refresh rate if it wasn't for the HUGE shipping cost and risk of damage. I can never find one for sale locally so I would rather just stick with my Samsung 2233rz for everything gaming wise.
