Replacing a capacitor

So I have a card (GeForce 8400GS 512MB card) that has a couple swollen capacitors. I figured this could be my first experiment with replacing them. I see that the old ones are 470 Ohms but the voltage is 16. Radioshack has some 470 Ohm Capacitors but they are 35 volt. I know electronics are usually touchy, so I was wondering what everyone thought. Will this matter or will I need to keep it exactly the same? I would like to avoid burning it up with an obvious "no duh" moment.
 
If they're just resistors, I perceive that as a maximum voltage. As long as they're the same resistance, if the specification is higher you should be fine. It's if the specification is lower you'll have issues.

If they are actually capacitors, they aren't measured in ohms.
 
if your in an area with somekind of electronic repair shop id go there and see if theres anything they can do. shouldnt cost much and they should have much better equipment to replace whats damaged if possible at all. good luck
 
capacitors will only store voltage at the voltage level it comes it at. You can use higher voltage caps provided they will fit as sometimes they are larger. you can NOT use lower voltage caps.

BTW caps measure in Micro farads. Resistors are ohms.
 
Sneaky sneaky. Edited the thread to read 'capacitors' and hoped I wouldn't notice :p I thought that's what you meant.
Or was that another thread :/ Dunno now. Either way yeah, you can measure capacitor reactance in ohms, but that's a different discussion altogether, and not relevant here
 
Not sure what you mean sam....I haven't changed anything. Maybe you confused me with another post.

pcguy24...This is a really cheap card and would cost probably the same to replace as to pay someone else to fix it. That is why I want to make this a learning project. The parts should only run like $3, so the knowledge and experience would be worth it even if it fails. If I have success, I may start attempting to fix motherboards that have some that are swollen as well.
 
And it was my mistake...it wasn't Ohm's...it was Microfarad. And yes it is Capacitors I am wanting to replace not resistors.
