Well, I got an old IBM thinkpad laptop (for free). It may be slow... but its kinda fun to play around with. Right now, the only problem with it is that the screen is very dark. The brightness setting is maxed out , and its still dark.

on ebay, such as this auction:
http://cgi.msn.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3459588682&category=42188

I could buy a replacement screen. I'd just have to make sure that all of the model numbers and such would match.

My Question is, if I got this screen, would everything be brighter and easier to see? Or is my problem with part of the laptop it self?

If the screen is very very dark, but u can still sorta see that the screen is being redrawn. The 2 biggest possibilities are either the backlight of your LCD panel needs replacement, or that the power mod portion on your laptop's motherboard that controls the LCD is broken. If it's the former, yes, by buying a replacement LCD panel will fix the issue, but if it's the latter, unless you replace a good portion of your motherboard it wouldn't solve anything.

cheers,

Yass

Well hopefully the screen is the problem and not the motherboard. I dont think there is a way to test it w/o just buying new components.. but ill see. The laptop is about 3 or 4 years old. Also, the contrast adjustment does infact work if that has anything to do with it. I suppose that would be dirrectly connected to the backlighting section of the screen.
