Replacing 9800GTX+, AMD or Nvidia?

So after going through 2 cards in less than a month with EVGA and basically told that I don't matter, I am just going to move on.
My question, what would be a better move? GTX 260 or a AMD 5770? Brands would most likely be BFG or XFX as I have read good stories on the pair of these brands, though evga has a good rep and I get better service at best buy than they have shown me :rolleyes:
Perhaps another card I haven't considered yet? Price range would like to stay sub $230.

Also, what is the difference between these 2 cards besides what appears to be a slightly different HSF? One HSF better than the other?
 
The difference between the two linked cards as far as I can tell is the heatsink and one card does not have a battleforge coupon.

Between a 5770 and a 260 I would pick the 5770. It is as fast or faster in games than the 260 while also being $30 cheaper on average and having DX11 capabilities. However, if you use CUDA apps or are fond of GPU accelerated PhysX then the 260 is prolly what you want.

DX11 will prolly not be that important for at least the next 6 months.
GPU PhysX is only used in a very few games, so far only around 1-2 triple A titles come out each year using it. And the games still play fine and look good on AMD.
I don't consider either important at this time myself, if you do, choose your card accordingly.

Don't let the shills and fantics bound to appear shortly fool you, AMD drivers can be every bit as troublesome as Nv drivers, and vice versa.
 
Can you get another 100 and sell your 9800GTX to recoup? If you like AA the 5770 kinda sucks with it. I'm finding that out more and more. I would step up to a 5850.
 
I am getting it RMA'd, and I am just going to sell whatever they send me, I am ditching EVGA 100%.
Price I listed is with the expectancy of selling the replaced card, while I would love a 5850 I can't justify it's price right now.

The 5770 will be fine then.

There really isn't anything that I have played I can't max out with surprisingly smooth framerates. The only game I can't max out is Crysis. but even still I run it at 1600x1200/1280x1024 High 16xAF, and EdgeAA=2 in autoexec. Not bad at all..
