Replacement Speakers

So I own a set of the Logitech Z906 speakers. I used them mainly for my personal computer (overkill I know, idc though). Well recently they have stopped working all together. I've tried doing a factory reset on them with no luck. I did notice that there was a buzzing coming from the subwoofer. It more closely resembled electricity being arch between to points. I've contacted logitech to see if I could get it replaced, but since it's out of warranty.... no dice.

So i'm looking for replacements. The features of the z906's that I enjoyed was the controller deck and the digital inputs.

So if anyone has a suggestion for replacement I appreciate the comments. Also, it doesn't have to be a 5.1 system.

Thanks!

Get a desktop amp and some nice bookshelf speakers if you have room.

teac ai-101da, nan d 3020, audioengine n22, dayton dta120, Creative x7, etc would all be good choices

If you just want basic computer speakers though I find the Creative Gigaworks T20, T40, or T50's are pretty good.

You could also look into something like the Audioengine A2+ or A5+ or similar powered speakers too.

I really do like the idea of going with the desktop amp and bookshelf speakers.

Are there any desk amps that have the optical input for a reasonable price ?

I'm hoping to keep it between 200 - 300.

But I don't mind paying for quality products.

Watch for a sale on this. Can be had at times for $300... which is a great value.

You can buy the receiver on it's own and pair it with 4 or 8 ohm speakers. Very flexible device.

If you really want to stick with the 300 max budget I'd recommend this receiver:

Use one of these speaker pairs:

and add a subwoofer if you want more bass and have the space:

You can get the SMSL Q5 PRO and one of the speakers I suggested for $200ish, hard to beat that. They are extremely good for the money and complete with much more expensive items.

Add one of the subwoofers for the ultimate 2.1 desktop setup.... you'll be thrilled and still around $300

Another solution could be this mini system but you'll need to use analog input since it doesn't have optical and you'll have to connect a subwoofer with speaker wire as there is no preamp sub out.

I'd personally go for the SMSL Q5 Pro, Dayton Speakers and a subwoofer if you have room for it. If you don't have the space then get a pair of the BIC Formula, they go lower than the Dayton's and will provide you with a ton more bass.

N1GHTRA1N,

Thank you for your suggestion, that was like the perfect answer I was looking for.

I will make sure to post up pics. It may be a bit before I can get them, have to make sure bills are paid :( .

Also, I just notice today that my like 10 year old stereo system that I have hooked to my TV is starting to go..... maybe it's just wiring. Or just another excuse to but really nice stuff!
