this is looking better & better.

with the asus A8n-VM micro-atx motherboard, a medium power PCI-E video card, good low-latency memory - etc. - i think i can make a real OC-friendly system.

i need to be able to carry it on an airplane.

but not with that power supply, i wouldn't do OC with that.

anybody know of a better power supply that is compatible with this case ?

thanks a lot !

I'd suggest a shorter optical drive instead, just to make everything fit. A nojrmal ATX psu should fit, but leaving room for optical...

Sony and Lite-on have short enclosure'd optical drives.

thanks for the info.

i wanted to use the samsung 16x DVD.

i have a pioneer 8x DVD on a shuttle with a P4 3.06. not stable burning DVD's.

i'd like for my next system to have a real good DVD.

any chance of finding an ATX power supply that is shorter in the "length" direction - that is still a hefty OC-friendly power supply ?

I heard people using Enermax Liberties (400, 500 and 620watt models) because they are shorter than most units. They are also modular, so that saves on cable space...

I have that case and am able to fit a PCP&C 410 Silencer inside of it. The optical drive I have is a little shorter than average, so that made it all possible. I vote for getting a small/crappy optical drive in change for a better PSU.

Most any PSU with active PFC is a winner. PCP&C or Enermax for the win!

If you were willing to, and were willing to risk some of the money on it, I'd say you gut the innards of the Aspire PSU Case, stuff in some small power supply that works well, and you got yourself a bling bling short psu. There's one specific Fortron model which only takes up most of the psu case. That, pull out the 80mm fan and put a 120 externally mounted of the case, on the bottom, and you have a winner.

Uh no.

i've tried that. it is fun. i did get electrocuted, with 120 VAC. now i am more cautious.

if you do things wrong and the thing smokes when you're not home, your hobby could become mighty expensive mighty quick.
