Share in my tale of woe. I researched for several weeks before deciding upon and purchasing an NEC 20WMGX2. It's for work (web/app dev, photoshop, no gaming). For this purpose it's a fantastic monitor, IMO - for the past 2 years or so, I've been very, very happy with it.
Until this morning. When I arrived to work and turned it on, I was presented with no fewer than 6 clearly identifiable clusters of dead (black) pixels scattered about the panel. And in addition to the clusters, there is a strange "arc" of dead pixels measuring almost an inch long; it looks like a hair trapped under the surface (rest assured, it's not a hair). This all sprang up almost literally overnight - just 2 days ago, the panel was in perfect shape. Over the weekend, it hadn't even been turned on.
I ran the gauntlet of flashing-color pixel programs and performed various pressure applying techniques. Didn't help.
The 20WMGX2 is now out of production, but given I love(d) this monitor, can anyone advise on a similar one to replace it with? E.g., an IPS panel / glossy / very good color repro / sub $1k USD price tag?
And as an aside, any ideas on what causes this to happen? Two things surprised me: the suddenness and severity of the dead pixels - I went from zero on Friday to lots on Monday. The other surprise is that after just 2 years (if that), I'm already looking at replacing a $650 monitor.
