I have a Dell M1330 laptop with the thin LED panel. I went through the whole rigamarole of replacing the motherboard due to the defective nvidia GPU last year (or, more likely, a bad solder-job by Dell.) Anyway, I'm starting to get a line through the center of my screen again. I suspected the GPU of course (since it began like this last time), but since (1) it looks fine on an external display and (2) I can see the line as a "less-reflective" area of the panel, even when there is no power to the unit, I suspect the panel itself is failing. I can move the mouse cursor "under" the corrupted area (which like a line/area of green/black stuck pixels) and still see the cursor.
Another forum I lurked mentioned the possibility that the inverter may be at fault? Seems unlikely if I can see it on the turned-off screen.
It's well out of warranty now and Dell wants something mad like $400 to replace the panel. I'm more than happy to buy a 3rd party panel and replace it myself... Does anyone know whether ANY 13.3" WXGA LED LCD panels would work, or whether I need a specific model number? That is, what third party OEM panel would work? The panel currently in the unit is a Toshiba LTD133EWDD. I believe the Dell panel model no. is N133I5-L01 (or RP774), which is around $200 shipped, vs. $130-150 for other similar style panels on eBay. And if you can suggest a specific replacement, please do (and include a link!)
I'm now long-term unemployed and dipping into my reserves for this, so please don't just say, "Pay extra for the one you know will work, stupid."
