Well, I made the mistake of purchasing this headset from bestbuy along with BF2 (which rocks!!!). Anyway, after a 2 hour session of BF2, I took my headphones off and my ears hurt! they were so sore. So you can imagine I'm gonna be looking for another pair. What do you guys think of THESE. They look FAR more comfortable, but the frequency response kinda bothers me. Isn't that a pretty bad bass response?

Also, does anyone know if I return something to the bestbuy store I purchased the headphones at, if I can get online credit at bestbuy?

Both those headphones are SUPRA-aural... meaning they rest on top of your ears. These hurt my ears too!

I would suggest something that is CIRCUM-aural... something that surrounds the ear and rests on your head instead. I would suggest the HD201. Get it from newegg.com for 22$.

Sounds great and is very portable, in case you need it for your cd/mp3 player.

I'm willing to spend more than that if it makes a decent difference. I would like to stay under 50 and comfort is very important. Most headphones will satisfy me sound wise. I've listened to my friend's set of HD555 and they're really good but not worth it sound wise for me. anyway, more suggestions would be great.

I'm very tempted to go for these. 3dgameman and all other reviews say they sound great and are very comfortable.

If you want to save money - there really is no reason why you should go past the HD201. At that price, it is a bargain and delivers clear and balanced audio. You will be happy with either the 555 or the 201.

As long as you join Team Sennheiser - I'm happy.
 
I'm also running a home stereo amp as well. I really wanna see what his hd555 can do with the extra juice. He's just running them straight from his computer. So i guess the 201's and a boom mic should do it.

Where are you going to get a separate boom mic? If you can find one, let me know.... It seems that the only possible mic solutions are various desktop mounted models (logitech, plantronics), monitor mounts (labtec), or clip-on (Zalman).
 
I recently got the HD201's, so let me reiterate what I said over at head-fi:

Sound - Very good. It takes clasping the earpieces to my head to get the best sound, but I'm so used to close sound, since I use the Panasonic RP-HJE50's with my Karma. Bass is reproduced well, and high's are not harsh. A tiny bit weak in the midrange, but burn-in may very well take that away. A different soundstage than I'm used to from using canalphones, but it really does allow you to hear sounds as if they are from a differentiated direction.

Comfort and enclosure - These are by no means noise-cancelers. They do leak some sound, so be warned. The pads are comfortable, though a softer material would be nicer. The band is not restrictive and would allow anyone to use these for a long session. However, they're a bit too loose which can bother some people - me being no exception.

I wouldn't reccomend them as portable. In my opinion, canalphones do this job so much better. However, for around the house and traveling, these are awesome. Worth so much more than $23.33.

i meant just a seperate mic like you're talking about. Not an add-on to the headphones.

so_cal_forever: When you say you have to "clasp them together to get the best sound", is that cause the pads don't seal up around your ear well enough?

I'm not exactly sure, to be honest. They seem to seal well, but I'm so used to close-distance sound from canalphones that I may be jaded on this one. I still fully suggest them though.
 
ok cool....thanks. I was curious cause I was previously using my friend's set of KOSS headphones and if the pad would slightly lift off your skin, all the bass would go away.....not to mention they were very heavy and uncomfotable. Now i'm just waiting for newegg to get them in stock.......unless you guys have a good place that sells them too.

I assume you mean that when you push the ear cups tighter against head the sound gets better?

As for the HD201s..... I have spent the better part of the last 4 nights with them and they have impressed me very much.
They are a little rolled off on the top end, there is also a little fuzz in the upper midrange, the drivers are not matched very well, the cord is to long and the pleather ear pads are a little to small for my tastes but the level of detail, the sound stage and the bass extension (even without an amp) all make them a steal at that price.

Hey, I'm just gonna tack a pair onto my order of refurbed HD580s from Ecost. They'll be my closed cans for exercising instead of my Ultrasones. I need something to cut down on the noise from the treadmill.

Just got my order of these from newegg along with an External enclosure for my harddrive.

These are SOOOOO COMFY!!! thanks so much guys! when i first saw these on newegg, i immediatly looked over them because of the low price, but they'll work great. they sound awesome too. Bass response wasn't exactly what i expected but from what i hear, they kinda need to be worked in a bit before you get full response. Anyway, from what i'm hearing right now, I'm VERY glad I got these. thanks again.
