Replacement for GeForce GTX 460?

I sent my desktop in for a diagnostic at a local shop because none of my local friends are "enthusiasts" (i.e. no spare parts to do tests myself). I have a feeling that either my graphics card or my power supply died, so while I'm waiting for the results, might as well ask for opinions.

My current card is a EVGA GeForce GTX 460 SE 1GB. I saw that there's a recent thread describing how several people upgraded their GTX 460s to Radeon 7870s.

I can afford a 7870 (thank you Asian parents for instilling a high savings rate), but it's above my willingness-to-pay. Are there any "new" cards out there in the $100-$200 range that have similar performance to a GTX 460 (similar, not better)?
 
Yup, I was gonna say the same. GTX 650 Ti can be found for $110-150, depending on the specific model, sales, and rebate(s).
 
If you can afford 7870, try to strech 20-30$ more for 7870 LE. I think that LE is the sweet spot in that segment. Very close to 7950 and significantly more powerfull than 7870.
If not, 7850 is very nice, esc. overclocked.

perhaps you should re read his post. ;)
 
7850 i dont find really anything in your price range to be a huge upgrade.Best bet if you want to stay under $200 is a 7850 and overclock the crap out of it.
 
650ti are pretty low powered , sell yours 70ish bucks, get a GTX480, GTX 570or 560ti, or the 660 ,you can upgrade to these for around 100$-150$ , im a NVidia guy though

nobody should really even consider a gtx480 at this point. he is asking for a card with similar performance to his gtx460 and a gtx650ti is a little faster and in his price range.
 
I got my desktop back earlier this afternoon; my video card indeed died. Again, thanks for all the suggestions. I'll be checking out GTX 650 TIs.

480's can be found for under $200 and as low as like $120 used.Nothing wrong with that choice at all and is almost double the performance of what he has.

first off a 480 is not even close to double the performance of a 460. its about 50% faster. and the 460 has way more overclocking headroom so if both were oced the gap would be much closer than even that.

a 480 is a loud, power hungry, highly inefficient joke of card at this point. there are way better overall choices.
 
try about 60-70% on average faster and i was thinking the gtx 580 my bad.You sound like a broken record loud hmm not the 3 ive owned.The original 480's might have been hot?depends on what one you get.I had a galaxy overclocked version that would never even touch 60 celcius and was dead silent.Plenty to choose from with after market coolers would do the same.I can also tell you my gigabyte superoverrclocked 480 clocked at 820 mhz out of the box could keep with 2 gtx 460's sli.Im not telling him to get a reference card but a card with a good aftermarket cooler is still a great choice.This power consumption debate doesnt hold water since there really isnt a huge difference on your electric bill.sure a 460 doesnt use much power but your also not getting good performance.
