Replacement for a gtx480?

Looking to maybe change out my 480 for something I can put a full coverage block on that uses less power overall that is competitive in performance. The 480 does what I need it to without a doubt, but it eats power at idle, and generates a lot of heat that I figure the newer lineups can beat.

Just curious if I have other options since water cooled cards tend to only be the highest end of each gen, but maybe there's one I missed.
 
A 660Ti/HD7870/HD7950 would cover that; the first two would do so without needing much cooling.
 
You can find a HD7870 for around $190 now a days after rebate, decent performance for what it's worth.
 
The GTX660 is also faster than the GTX480. and uses much less power.

As a replacement either the 7870 or the GTX660 should do.

As an upgrade a 7950 is the best choice IMO.
 
yea, not really needing to "upgrade" as all I play is swtor or less. I just don't think I can justify the space heater anymore. The heat coming off my rad even on idol heats my office well above the rest of the house. haha
 
Set up a custom voltage profile and mess with your clocks and your temps and power draw will decrease signigicantly. Especially if you aren't pushing the card you really dont need that headroom.
 
660ti if you want to stay nvida, but the 7950 is the best overall option
