Hey all. Finally jumping up from a slot a to a socket a (Asus A7V266-E with a 1400+) thanks to a forum member selling off some older hardware. Problem is, the HSF fan (stock AMD cooler) is buzzy as all getout. Any recommendations for a replacement fan? Prolly just run to Fry's tomorrow to get a new one.

Replacement fan on an HSF

Scratch that. I pulled the fan off, so I could use it to get a measurement/comparo. Ran it off of the heatsink, sounded fine. Blew everything off, put it back on, now it's quiet. It just sounded before like it was hitting something as it spun. Well, seems ok now!
Did notice (just now) however, that the fan is blowing INTO the heatsink, rather than away from it. Is this just how things are done on the Athlon XP coolers? Tried flipping the fan around, but the screws aren't quite long enough. Currently, the Asus Probe software reports a CPU temp of 48 C (118 F), with a case temp of 25C (77F). Ambient temp in the apartment is around 72-73 F.

Ah, good to know. Previous experience was with a Slot A cooler, which blew more outward.
