Replace old Logitech G3 sensor?

Hi, does anyone know if it is possible for me to replace my Logitech G3's sensor with another mouse sensor? I would really like to do this as my G3 is rather sluggish feeling.. possibly because of age.. can someone tell me which mice would work to do this? Possibly the G9x or any other mice? I want to do this because I like the shell of the G3. Thank you very much.

It probably wouldn't work right if you just replaced the sensor, you would probably have better luck replacing the entire innards.

Do you happen to know which laser mice may work/fit with the g3 shell

Maybe this is totally obvious, but you might want to open it up and clean it if you already haven't.

My G3 is happily still going strong - hope it never dies.
