Replace no-name PS or buy extensions?

I just got a HAF 932 case in a great deal ready to build an AMD 6 core machine. My cpu and ram have not arrived but I started the build. My excitement of mounting the PSU in the bottom with clean cabling came to a quick halt noticing my cables were too short!

The PSU is a no-name "SAFE POWER" 585W (nice gold finish ). Being un-educated about PSUs all I can say is that it never failed before in a loaded core2 build with tons of drives and lots of overclocking.

My question is: Do I just find extentions for the cables or buy a new decent name brand unit with wattage to spare that has long cables? Most of my drives have now been moved to my server so do I really need a 800W or greater PSU?

Basic Specs:
AMD 1090T + 6G ram
NVIDA 8800GTX (for now)
2 - 3 Hard drives + BluRay player

Got no problem opening the wallet to but a better PSU but not just for a cleaner assembly.

Thank you in advance.

Get rid of that piece of junk. Buy a nice quality modular PSU. Take a look at the HX650.

I was in a similar position 2 weeks ago and I chose to go for a new PSU...

Pick up a good Corsair or similar quality PSU with longer cables.

If you value your data or even the components you just bought (or the money you spent on them), you'll replace that power supply. Also, understand that the fact that a system switches on and runs is not indicative in any way, shape, or form, of power supply quality. To get a better understanding of why, I suggest reading this article-page 5 in particular.

What video card are you looking at upgrading to? If you don't go the Fermi or 5970 route or go with multiple GPUs a quality 650w unit ought to be more than adequate. You have quite a few options; my preference at that wattage range would be the Seasonic X-650, but that's an extremely expensive power supply and there are other alternatives that are cheaper that are perfectly adequate. The Corsair HX that DooKey and MuZI mentioned is an excellent choice, so are the XFX power supplies. Seasonic's lower-end models (the M12 II/S12 II) are options as well, and there are a number of others out there. But you definitely need to replace that generic piece of crap before it cooks something for you.

Thx for the reply guys.

Yup, kinda saw the answer coming but in truth needed a little help opening my wallet.

My local store stocks the Corsair HX Series CMPSU-750HX 750W ATX EPS12V Power Supply.

Hopefully nice long cables...

Sorry, just saw last reply... Will I need more than 750 with a FERMI? That is for sure in my future as the machine is 25% gaming and 75% 3D modelling using Nvidia's CUDA.
