Replace 5.1 setup with cans & Schiit?

Hey [H], do to a pending display upgrade I think it might be time to relocate my old Logitech Z5500 setup and start using headphones for my primary audio.

I've currently got a SB-Z card, the aforementioned Z5500's and a pair of Audiotechnica ATH-AD900's. I really like the headphones and unless I hear otherwise I don't think I need to upgrade them. I'm open to suggestions if there is good reasoning for a change though.

I'm considering moving to a Schiit stack of the Magni 3 and Modi 2 to use with the AD900's. I don't want to completely rule out adding some powered monitors in the future though which if added should work well with the Magni I think.

I'm very very much a noob when it comes to audio. I've never been truly sure if I've ever had my Z5500's actually set up right if that tells you anything and they are attached to their 4th build with as many different sound cards. I love the Z5500's but my current pc location doesn't allow for the use of the rear speakers anyways.
 
Just point the drivers toward the sides of your ears, there's not much rocket science to setting up satellite speakers.

As far as the Schiit stack, for sure it will be a "display upgrade" if you like the brushed aluminum look over having an internal sound card.

In terms of upgrading your AD900s, this isn't one of those things that deductive arguments will solve without subjective data points--namely whether or not you actually want an upgrade because something is lacking, and if there's actually something you want prefer instead of it, which can't really be resolved without you personally demoing hardware. You can always make appeals to "this is better because X" but nobody knows if you will agree with that assessment subjectively until you hear it yourself.

On the whole though, most people generally seem to switch for looks or comfort where it comes to headphones, less so with the sound.

I don't see a reason to change anything; a Schiit stack may not be much of an upgrade for general computer audio coming from an SB-Z, especially given that your ATH-AD900 cans are 35Ohm and thus very easy to drive relative to say Sennheiser's HD650 set at 300Ohms.
 
Thanks guys, I appreciate the input. I'll look at sticking with the AD900's and SB-Z, replacing the Z5500's with some Micca PB42X's and a level control.
 
The SP-BS22-LRs are incredible value for money but don't mistake thinking they're great on absolute value. They're just very good for their price.
