Is there anyway i can build a machine full of video cards that will do all my rendering for me? Just got 2 8800s in it right now, so i KNOW there is much faster cards out, but if imma do it, i wanna do it big :D

And i dont mean an entire computer, i just want something that i can plug into when i need it.

...ok... im googling it lol.

...edit..like i thought, lots on multimachine farms...but only one article on GPU farms and that is 2 years old...

anyone got any ideas?

This is a cool video to watch:

While not specifically used for rendering, it's the most interesting multi-gpu setup used for number crunching that I've seen so far. And they outline some of the roadblocks they encountered.

Here's their website: http://fastra2.ua.ac.be/

interesting video....

yes i am aware of the Plex. i just realized in my research that Solidworks uses CPU rendering. Not a problem i just need to find another rendering platform that works with GPU's. Im not sure if blender does.

For anything less than designing a nuclear power plant, a standard run of the mill card or two can handle the general designing task. its the animation and rendering that's really holding me up.

ill keep looking, i need some more specific technical information to. Id also like to do folding or particle research when im not designing. thanks for the info though guys
