Removing the shim on a 9800pro?

Hey I want to put a thermal probe next to the GPU core on my 9800pro, do I have to remove the shim? I would rather not remove it if I don't have too.

if your good with cutting metal perhaps you could take a sliver out of the heatsink so that you can slide the sensor sorta above the shim and then back beside the core, thats the only way i can think of removing the shim

the thing is that a lot of people i know of that have removed the shim, ended up crushing the gpu

I think most people use a blow dryer to warm up the glue and then use a knife or other object to remove the shim.

So does no one know the temp of there 9800pro? I know a lot over people o/c there 9800pro's. I want to run my card at 9800xt speeds but I want to know the temp also. For the cooler I'm going with the "ZALMAN Dual Heatpipe Noiseless VGA Cooler".

should be no problem cutting into the shim .. probably remove it before cutting just in case you slip

before messing with your card make sure your temp probe fits:
height of the shim: 0.8mm +-0.060 mm
height of the core above the substrate: 0.840mm -+0.025mm
