OK......

I am going to tear some of my CM 830 down to powder coat it.

Best way to remove rivets???? Drill 'em or wack 'em??

Then what?? Tap the holes??? Size of tap??? Type of hardware???

Any help is appreciated.

Definitely drill them out.

Tap to suit whatever hardware you decide to use. This will depend on the look you are going for, or other factors depending on the case you have, etc.

Why not just get a rivet gun and put rivets back in? I'd rather do that than risk stripping a thread.

I thought I'd tap the holes and then use a small hex head bolt.

The bolts will not be all that visible. The advantage there would be dismantling if you ever had to, versus rivets.

Thanks.

Personally, tapping isn't a good option: the material is just to thin
Sure it will hold if you don't put to much force on it

Just put some new rivets in there once you're done

Drill rivets out. Rivet it back together once PCed.

If you want to make dissassembly easier at a later date, use hex bolts but back them up with a nut. Or if you want to get really creative, you could secure the nut to the case with cement before you have it powder coated. Dont waste your time trying to tap the metal, as others have said, its too thin.

Drill out the rivets as mentioned and put the case back together with sheet metal screws. I did that with my case and the results are great.

I guess I never thought of that.
Good advice.
I found some nice stainless hex head bolts that will seat flush, so I guess I'll order some nuts and washers.

Yep, dont worry too much about getting glue or cement in the threads either, you can always clean them out with a tap. I only wish i had though of doing this before i tore mine down and painted it a few months ago.

One more thing to note, im not sure how PC would adhere to glue, might be fine, might not, i just dont know, so you might want to take a little extra care in being neat on the outside portion of the nut.

Drill em out..
Screws and nuts or screws and tap the hole..

I just seen a case they used these big pop rivits and looked like hell...

No.6 or No.4 screws would be my choice...
