Im planning to reformat and I wont be doing a raid setup this time. I want to do a dual drive setup with the OS on one drive and games on the other. I never done this before so I dont know how to do it. My main concern was how do I format the two drives and setup the OS on one and have my games install to the 2nd. When I format the OS drive, will it ask me to format the 2nd one or will I have to do that later?

In order to avoid confusion as to where the OS is installed I would recommend removing one of the drives, then install your OS. After it is up and running install the other drive and use disk manager to partition and format the second drive.

Then remember many times you'll have to do the "custom" install of your programs so you can choose where to install the program so it doesn't default to the OS drive. When first setting up like this there's always one program you start clicking away at during an install and accidently install it on the OS drive. ;)

Or those darn programs that don't let you set a custom install location!

Is there way to make programs default to a drive other then the OS drive?

Not that I'm aware of. You just need to do a custom install for programs that you want to reside on the other drive. Look carefully on where the program is installing and change the location.

You can redefine the location of %programfiles% and properly written installers will figure things out automatically. here is a link. Disclaimer: I have never done this.

You can also do this with nLite so that Windows won't even create the default 'Program Files' directory.
