Removing old thermal paste

Which is the best way to remove thermal paste..... After tons of work with my new setup, I just don't think i'm getting a good contact. I installed my DD TDX block for socket 754 using AS5, but my temps did not vary at all from what my air cooled cpu was.... I thought that after letting the AS5 settle a bit, that temps would drop, but in my case it's exactly opposite. With my old HSF I used some really cheap thermal compound that came with my Chaintech mobo. When I removed the HSF I scraped off as much thermal paste as I could with an old plastic cards and then dabbed the rest off with alchol and paper towel...... Was this a bad idea? After doing everything I could it still seemed like there was a tiny coat of the old paste on my cpu, the lettering was still odd colored....

Also while screwing with my tubing and wireing I bumped my block pretty hard which made it shift a bit. So it needs to be reseated anyway, but this time I'd like to do it the right way. I will probably use some more AS5 unless you guys would suggest against it. I would go with ceramique but I can get the AS5 for nearly free from someone....

Alcohol and a paper towel to get rid of most of the compound. Then I use alcohol and a coffee filter to get a nice lint free core and water block.

Personally, I think as5 is overated, gets everywhere, hard to clean up. I use Ceramique or a good thermal paste...

any nothing like vodka... or an alcoholic beverage... he means like rubbing alcohol... lol...

and... yea... ive never used a coffee filter on my surface.. just some brawny paper towels....

I've used articlean on the last few comps I've built and it's pretty nice stuff. One bottles cleans off the old crap and the second bottles is supposed to prepare it for the new thermal paste. I think it works pretty well. I bought whatever the larger size is for $10 or so and I've got plenty left after using it about a dozen times.
