is there a way i can remove it without using a hairdryer.. i want to replace the thermal paste that is on the ram and gpu.

the temps are close to 60c at 400/1100...maybe itll go down with a new case..
 
why not just jiggle and twist it as much as you can until it pops off, it will happen, its just that theres a suction
 
i didnt mean to do it hard, you do it gently, too bad you cant jiggle a xp-120 loose from a psuedo-glued p4, i dont even bother with that... its so stuck that after ripping the cpu out of the socket i have to rotate the cpu about 5 turns to get it to come off, thats after powering it off directly after prime95
 
Shearing it off by twitsing is my technique.

Don't yank normal to the chip.
I once yanked my socket 478 chip right out of the ZIF thingee by yanking normally to the chip. <-- not good. took me an hour to straighten the pins.
