Hi

I recently got an Arctic Cooling silencer 5 rev3 to quiet down my noisy 6800gs. However, after attaching it and watching my idle temperatures shoot up to 65+ I am guessing that the core is not making good contact with the heatsink.

I want to take of the cooler to check this, but the thermal compound that attaches to the ram has seated and is stuck tight. Does anyone have a good way to remove the NV silencer from the videocard?

try lightly twisting as you lightly pull it.

or bust out the jackhammer.

You might want to heat up the heatsink with a hairdryer (blow it in the copper fins inside) and twist off... Happens all the time

allright, I guess I need to go and buy a hairdryer.

Also, does anyone have suggestions as to how I am to make the core come in contact with the heatsink?

dont buy a hairdryer just for that...
run a game for 20 minutes or so...
turn off ur comp and remove your vid card quickly then the heatsink should come right off...
something you can do to check whether its making proper contact is to do a "test run"
right after installing the heatsink take it apart again and make sure the thermal paste is spread evenly and correctly. if it is just reinstall everything the way u did during the test run...
it never hurts to read instructions either.

Thanks for the reply. I monitored the temperature when I turned on the computer, and it went up past 65 idle. At that point I turned off my computer. It seems that the core is not making good contact with the heatsink (I can sorta see a seperation between the core and the heatsink when I look under).

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get it to make better contact?

I thought the 5 rev 3 wasn't compatible with the GS model of the 6800... You're making an exemplary case of this.

You may be right, but I have read about others that have gotten it to work.

No one here has got this combination to work??
