i know that removing any extra wires from a PSU will automatically void a warranty, but will it disturb the output of the PSU?

there are so many unused plugs that they become clutter and block air flow.

No they won't effect it, other than down the road not having anymore plugs available.

yeah i thought about that, but after all i've learned from here so far, i'll build the next puter from the ground up and with all new components............thx for the advice

I did the same to a cheapy supply that came with a case, pulled off what I did not need... It's only powering a P3...

it's possible it will disturb the output if you are removing wires related to a rail. A PSU guru can confirm this.

There is no difference between unused wires/connectors attached to the psu and wires/connectors not attached to the psu. Removing wires will not upset the output of a rail.

+12v1 = 24pin mobo connector +all molex connectors
+12v2 = 4pin mobo connector

thx..........i figure i will go ahead and do the removal as it's being used in a mid tower.
if it goes before i build the new machine i'll just buy a new one.......

I have removed wires before. Just open the PSU, heat up the area you want to remove wires from with a soldering iron and pull out the wires. You should be careful of the following though:
- Make sure the PSU has been unplugged and powered off for an hour or so (and ignore BS about capacitors holding a charge for days or months... ATX PSUs don't)
- Don't remove any wires from the 20 or 24 pin ATX connector
- If there are voltage sense wires inside the PSU from the voltage you are removing wires from to other areas inside the PSU, don't remove the jumpers
- Many cheap PSUs are made with huge blobs of solder holding the wires to the board. Make sure to clean up blobs of solder and don't let them bridge to adjacent circuitry.
