Removing Excess Thermal Pad around GPU

I was wondering how i get the rest of the thermal pad off? I just put on the arctic cooling vga silencer on my 9700 pro and i think its not completely touching the gpu because of the excess thermal pad. I have tried using pliers after i heated it up and it wont come off and i tried using isopropyl alcohol to loosen it up and it didn't help. Any ideas? The excess is not actually on the gpu, its around the edges of it and it is a little higher then the gpu.

Also, how do the omega drivers for ati cards perform versus the official catalyst drivers?

When you say "pad" do you mean the metal shim around the gpu if the answer is yes to that .... when I removed mine on my 9800pro I put it inside two antistatic bags and put it in the freazer for a couple of hours(makes the glue brittle) then I used a razorblade very slowly working it under one edge untill it popped off (carefull of the little bridges on the substrate) .If this fails (and you just can't get it off :p ) you could use some thermal epoxy to "glue" a small bit of copper (that fits inside the shim) to the bottom of the cooler so it make proper contact .
