Removing drivers when switching from nvidia?

I have a new 7950 on the way and will be replacing a 480. I do not want to reformat so was wondering the best method to get rid of nvidia drivers other than just uninstalling the drivers from control panel.
 
I saw that but was unsure if there are issues using this with windows 7. Seems like I read somewhere there was an issue with sp1.
 
Just uninstall them reguarly. Windows 7 does a very good job of handling uninstalls. Driver sweeper was a great program back in xp days when you had to take a more hands on approach with drivers.
 
The only time I worry about doing complete scrubbing of drivers is when I go from AMD to AMD, as I once had a situation where the drivers kept detecting my 6850 as my old crappy 3870, and disabled all the DX11 features as a result. But going from NV to AMD shouldn't matter any more than leaving old printer drivers lying around; they'd be totally inoperable with each other so they couldn't cause a conflict.

Besides, driver sweepers have been known to be too aggressive and corrupt Windows installations in the process (preventing W7 SP1 from installing, for instance) so I wouldn't touch them unless absolutely necessary.
 
I usually uninstall and then drivesweeper them, usually works great
 
just uninstall the nvidia drivers. you don't need to do anything special.. hell if you are using windows 7 you don't even need to uninstall them at all since they can't effect the AMD drivers. same if you were going from AMD to nvidia.
 
yeah just do as sirmonkey1985 says. in very rare cases there could be an issue but only worry about that if it happens.

and I hope you are planning on overclocking that 7950. at stock speeds its little better than what you have already. I cant even stomach the thought of getting a nearly $500 card only to get about the same playable performance.

Bingo. Deviate from this advice only if you encounter issues.

I have graphics drivers from Intel, NVIDIA and AMD on my machine. It's no problem at all.
 
Yeah, I have never worried about it. People always seem to "driver sweeper yada yada yada..." and such, but ive actually seen those programs screw peoples computers up more often than helping do anything. I never touch that garbage. Youll find most experienced people dont either. Good way to screw your OS up.

I just switched from a Nvidia card to AMD recently on winXP and all I did was just the normal uninstall from add/remove programs and no issues at all. I have done this hundreds of times on the same machine so.... You shouldnt need to worry about that stuff. I havnt seen it be an issue.
