I have to RMA my MOBO and need to remove the cpu. I will be putting it back in the replacement MOBO so I don't need to remove the CPU cooler unless I have to. The cooler is a Zalman 7000B. What is the proper method of doing this so I don't bend the pins?

When I installed the cpu cooler my cpu stuck to the stock AMD cooler and I bent the pins so I'm being careful this time around.

you're gonna have to remove the hsf dude. and all you do after removing the hsf(if the processor doesn't come off with it), is pull up on the lever and pull the processor straight out

its hard to tell, but i think you are asking how do you remove the heatsink from the cpu without causing damage, correcet... you cannot remove them together as you need to lift the lever to get the cpu out safely with out bending pins

try running the comp a few minutes to get the "goop" warmed up so it will apart from the cpu easier, also try giving the heasink a little twist as you pull it up

yes, twist back and forth as you lift gently to get the heatsink off. never ever ever just give it a yank ;)
