Has anyone tried removing the Heatsink assembly from an Asus 9800 xt. I want to try water cooling it and using ram sinks on the ram. Will this be enough is the question.

It is only slightly more complicated than removing a stock heatsink/fan unit. All in all, not very difficult to remove or put back on. However, it is pointless to water cool it as the stock cooling solution is actually quite good. Also, this particulare card is a POS when it comes to OCing. I actually had this card and replaced it with an HIS 9800 Pro. The following #'s are first stock core speeds, and then my best stable OC:

Asus 9800XT = 412 > 430

HIS 9800 Pro = 378 > 450

The ram on the HIS OCed higher also. So, I spent half the price on the HIS and got better overall performance. It doesn't have 256MB ram or the Rage Theater chip, but I wasn't taking full advantage of those two features anyway!

I second what JNGS said. I am able to get only 435/380 without artifact outta my Asus card, and it's not even overheating. Water cooling is not recommanded on Asus 9800s since the purpose is defeated by the card's nature.

If you still wanna do water cooling, i don't see a problem with that.

This card is a beast and I leverage all of its features converting my home movies into dvd's but it overclocks like shit.

God its so powerful I dont feel like i am missing out. Far Cry looks and plays beautifuly.
