Im just curious here.....i have a few old mobos that i am removing the paralell ports from(for a school project), im just curious if the board is still usable, i dont see why not, but just curious....

the board in question is an Asus A7V, Socket A board......i havent decided what ill be doing with it yet, maybe a fun box or something.........

sorry if this is in the wrong area.

thanks for any help

If you just mean you've physically removed the connector, then unless you screwed up, it should all still work fine.

k, cool.......im just snipping the connector off, not anywhere near the board

If the parrallel port is on a cable you don't need to "snip" it off, just pull on the header at the end and unplug it from the motherboard. Then disable it in the BIOS.

@alpha, its not on a cable, its soldered to the board

My engineering class is doing a competition where we are using a 25 Ft printer cable.....to connect the server wires.....we are using the ports themselves as the connectors so we can have a 25 ft long cable for our servers in one bundle.......i know i could go to radioshack and get some ports, but whats the fun in that when i can reuse some old ones i have no use for

Um, OK but you said "im just snipping the connector off, not anywhere near the board". How can it "not be anywhere near the board" if it's soldered on? I think I know what you did but I'll wait for you to tell me. :)

at the end of the port where the "pins" bend and go down to the board, i snipped those.....i did it last week, will try and fire it up this weekend, i want to see if the old Socket A board will even fire :p

OK, that is what I thought you did. It should still work, just disable the parallel port in the BIOS.
