I know i know what you guys think but sometimes u do have to remove it...

now the normal way to remove these services is to run the config file again and the third line ask if you want to remove it and you are done

today i went through all that but it still did not fix my problem so i wanted to remove it the hard day

This is for Windows XP

MAKE SURE YOU BACKUP SO YOU DON'T SCREW YOUR SYSTEM
System restore should work fine for this so turn it on and make a restore point

goto Start>run

type: services.msc

find the service FAH05 or something like that and right click and hit properties.

click the stop button if it is started
then under startup type scroll down menu click disable
click ok

then go back to Start>run

type: regedit

find

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/CurrentControlset/Services

now look for the folder of the service you want to remove and delete the folder

now restart and do services.msc again and check to make sure it is gone

easy as that :)
also works for other services not just folding


 
actually once you set it to disabled in services.msc, you do not have to do the regedit thing. It will automatically not start.
 
yes.. but regedit removes it from the services list

i like things to b clean and neat


 
this was handy as i had 2 copies of it in my services.. one on my documents from a mistake, and one that i used..
 
Heh, when I get my a64 rig running again, I'm gonna reformat/reinstall then burn an image to a DVD when I'm done getting it setup how I want. Going to do the same thing with my laptop when it gets here (which I'll probably do before the a64 rig gets the format). Laptop should be here tomorrow! w00t. Doh! I don't have my [H]'s on this comp. Time to go get them. I almost have 10k pts!!!
Edit: added [H]'s. Need to get a64 back up and folding!

True, but is does come in handy when they come out with a new client (i.e 5.00 to 5.02)... That way you don't end up with 6 services that you have to disable because you've upgraded so many times.....

I just go to services tab and disable the service.
 
Side question: if I go into the services and stop it for a while (Playing a game, etc.) and restart it later, will this cause kooky chaos, or should this only be used to remove FAH?

It really shouldn't cause any problems as by stopping the serivce, you're giving the client a chance to shut down cleanly. The method here is for removing only, however if you search the forum, there is information on .bat files that you can use to start and stop the service from your desktop.


 
Another option for stopping it while you play games is to use the "Pause" option instead of the "stop" option. I believe that way you won't lose any work at all, instead of several minutes' worth. Granted, it won't free up the memory, but it's quicker to restart and you lose less work.

Personally, I don't know why you would want to stop it to game unless you're running with <512MB or you're running QMDs. I have 512MB RAM and I play UT2004 just fine with no hitches. Just make sure it's on "idle" priority instead of "low".
 
Agreed on the sticky. That reg key is good to know so you can edit the service command line and add things like -forceasm and -advmethods.

 
good information, thanks, I've had it not work by running the command line, so thanks for this, I vote for a sticky. Haha
 
i could care less.... I just search for it when i need it...


BTW i added 2 new cpu's tonight :)
