Removable Drive Racks

Just got 2 removable drive tray racks and 2 drives. Put them on my IDE chain in the comptuer and when the comptuer starts up and when it's booting. The drives just sound like they are accessing and then "loud click" then they access and then it happens again. This is the second brand to do this. I have never got them to just work.

Anyone know what the deal is with this?
 
Are your drives Western Digital? My $15 racks work fine with my Maxtor drives, but for some reason my WD drives click on and off inside these things. WD drives generally don't like any kind of enclosure, internal or external, for some strange reason.

You should also check your lock, of course, if your rack has one be sure it's in the right position :)

The powersupply is like a 550 watt and it works with the drives in there with out the enclosure. these are 19 dollar enclosures too. Kingwin. got good reviews on newegg.

This wasn't suposed to be a big dea. Put the drive in the enclosure and put it in the case. Connect the cables. Done.

I took the racks out of my system and put them in a usb enclosure. They both worked in the enclosure. I then put them back in my system and now they work. What's that all about?

This is less than a technicle solution.
 
In my experience with racks they don't always make the best connections to the devices, as a result they don't work. Usually just taking them out and putting them in again works. But you've already got that.

I have a two-part question for you. What external enclosures did you use and why?

Your input would be appreciated.

I have a server setup for my home automation project which i'm making for my Senior Design class. This is our final project at my school (Stevens Institute of Technology) as seniors.
I have 2 250 gig hard drives in my system with data on them. Those are set in the system with adapters to make them fit in the 5.25" bays.
I wanted to put 2 removable racks in the system so that I can pop 2 250 drives in once a week and back up the data on the internal drives.
I then bought 2 inner trays so that i can take 2 more 250 gig drives and do a backup and then bring those off site.
I would then swap the backup drives every month. (The data won't be changing all that much)

Basically when time comes to do our presentations to more than 700 people on design day here on campus, I won't have to worry as much if a drive dies because i'll have backup data and i will still be able to show how my system works.
