Hey guys. I had the idea that a remote control with a trackpad built in would be a great way to control a HTPC. It could also be used for big presentations and the like. I've been talking to a few manufacturers about getting this started but I first want to see what yall think.

It would be in the shape of a basic remote control. Now, imagine with me for a minute. Grab any remote you have and hold it like you normally do. See where your thumb is, that is where the trackpad would be. Now, where should the left, right, scroll buttons go? Above or below the trackpad? Also, there is a set of left, right, scroll buttons on the bottom of the remote for your fingers. However, it would be more like left click is on top of the right click and scroll in the middle. If you can picture it, as your holding the remote, your index would be left click and middle finger would be right.

With the standard trackpad stuff, it would have various buttons of a standars remote like the numbers, power, volume, channels, fast forward, rewind and a few others. It would have the functions of a basic universal remote...basically.

It would connect to a computer wireless through a usb receiver or bluetooth but probably not both in the same unit. It would also have a IR leds so you can use it with your regular tv. Also, a little switch or selection button to assign the remote buttons for TV or PC or others perhaps like a DVD player.

On the PC side, there would be software similar to Logitech's to assign different functions to buttons. You can have the ff, rew, play buttons control media players and numbers be...well...numbers I guess...or hotkeys to launch programs?

What do you think? I did a search for such a product and came up with nada. The closest was a wireless keyboard with a trackpad built in but it basically looked like the bottom half of a laptop.

I just want to gauge people's reaction. Thanks.
