Remote Gaming?

I am curious if anyone knows a way to game remotely over something like RDP. From what I understand you can't over Windows RDP since it does not load your box's 3d driver. So does anyone know any way it can be done?
 
What kind of games are you talking about? If you're talking about FPSes or something like that, then don't even think about it. It's simply way too much to send over the line at a reasonable framerate. Not to mention the 3d acceleration problems you mentioned. The only way to run games like that is to run them locally(even if the files themselves are on a remote machine). If you're talking about solitaire or console games or something, then I don't see why it wouldn't work.
 
I can't imagine that being too feasible, as the performance would probably suck, and the response time would be heavily lagged on input devices, when compared to being in front of the machine.
 
vnc on a fast connection would work ok turn-based games, maybe even RTS's but definately not for anything requiring precision timing.

 
I was able to RDP into my machine at home and play simcity3k from work. :D I'll post a pic when I get home. It was slow as shit, but it worked. :p
 
If anyone cares to know, I tried to play Warcraft III over 1Gps ethernet, just for the hell of it. Both of these are 3000+ A64s with 1024 megs of ram, and the game was going at most, 1Fps or so.
 
One of my guildmates in World of Warcraft told me he was playing remotely from his work computer, by remote controlling his PC at home.

I personally don't believe thats possible. He claims he was, but he more than likely had WOW installed on his work pc.

There is no way that's possible. Even with an OC3 directly connected he couldn't. I've loaded up video files through a RDP connection on my home network, and all you get is a slide show, and that's at 100mbps.

But games like Civ, simcity, solitare and games of that nature would work, very poorly, but they work...unlike some of you lazy bastards. :p

Wow, this thread has been way too much fun for being in the OS forum. :) I need to go and find someone to scold for using tweaking guides or splitting the OS and apps on different drives. :p

I once played a game of solitare over Terminal Services (RDP) on a Quad-2.4GHz Xeon Server. I was load-testing SQL-Server and was trying to give it that last extra bit of stress!!!

Hey now.... :)

Good network admins remove the games from the machines, so if you want to play solitaire, and aren't able to use Google to find an online version, RDP is your ace in the hole. lol

Obviously none of this logic went into my original post when I listed solitaire in the first place, but hindsight is 20/20. :p
