Remote Desktop Problem with LCD

I am having a problem where when I remote desktop connect to a new HP computer with a Dell LCD monitor, then disconnect and I try to go logon locally, the monitor says "Can't use this display mode".

I figured that the LCD can only handle up to 1024x768 and the computer I used to connect to it is 1152x864, so I set Remote Desktop to only use 1024x768 as display but I get the same problem.

What can I do? I end up having to hard power off the computer because I can't see anything to shutdown properly.

Any ideas?

My experience is that Remote Desktop can be very buggy unless your trying to view the same res as the actual desktop. Try to set the remote PC to 1024x768 and see if that works better.
