remote controlled speakers

I would like to get something that will hook up to speakers so that they work off the source without being hardwired. In specific I want to go from a power amp to a couple of bookshelf speakers mounted on the wall.

Can anyone recommend something available either over the net or in a box store or otherwise in Ontario, Canada that would sell such an animal? I would like it to be better than average quality if possible.

Thanks.

You could always get a remote kit for your PC, and set it up to be able to adjust the windows volume. That might save some cash and net you extra functionality also.

If I am reading your post correctly, it sounds like you want wireless speakers, not remotely controlled speakers, right? If that is the case, then you cannot go from an amplified output to your speakers. How would the speakers get power if they didn't have an amplifier and they weren't hooked up to your main amp? There are several devices that will transmit a line level signal to receivers hooked up to the speakers. The receivers need power(usually standard 120VAC, sometimes batteries) to amplify the signal and drive the speakers. Also, quality of a wireless setup will usually not be better than a wired setup(at least not without spending big bucks). X10 has a device here, but I'm sure there are many other similar devices out there.

I have a home stereo that is surround sound. It has a series of power amps for different speakers. For the rear speakers, rather than drag wires across the floor, I would love to hook a remote unit up to the respective amp so that the speakers can be connected without hardwiring.

Is such a unit available? I paid a lot of money for those speakers and don't want to replace them with different units if it all possible.

That is VERY close to what I am looking for. Is there anything similar?

That unit looks like a huge POS. What THD is that 10W at? What's the minimum Ohm rating it can play? It basically looks like a gimmick for Bose-yuppy crowd..all form, no function. Basically, I think that you are best off just buying some decent speaker wire and stringing it around your room. It's certainly not the coolest thing in the world, but it's cheap and you won't have to worry about it ruining your sound quality.

What speakers are you hooking up anyways?

Wow. I wasn't suggesting that he buy that particular device; I just wanted to show him that they existed and that is the first one I found with google. I'm pretty sure it does indeed have a function. Just because you think it might suck doesn't mean nobody can benefit from it. Anyway, it wouldn't work with his setup since he wants to use his existing amplifier. Something like this may be better suited for this situation(in my quick search I didn't see anything like that that didn't have video). Again, though, wireless generally cannot touch wired in terms of audio quality, but that is just a tradeoff you will have to deal with.

I'm hooking two Acoustic Research AR-230 (The old cast ones with wall brackets. Literal translation - Audiovox) up to a Rotel RB-970BX power amplifier as my two rear channels connected to a Rotel RSP-960AX sound processor. This gear is like ten years old or something like that. It's far superior to Bose, but still there is much better out there now.

I really don't want to string speaker wire. It's a brand new house with an ultra modern great room with very large windows on it, a staircase at one end and the hall, kitchen entrance at the other. I really want to mount the speakers on the wall and build shelves on each side for a remote receiver.

This is a pic of what the front will look like, minus the surroundings. I want the speakers mounted on the wall behind the couch facing the TV.

I am going to look into the product mentioned in the post before mine and see what it is capable of doing.. Surround channels have a very narrow bandwidth, esp on the Rotel, which caps the top and bottom of the signal. The unit might do the trick.

If it doesn't, I will post another pic when I get moved in after the end of the week and I will see if that helps any more to show what I am up against.

I'm not debating that it can handle the bandwidth, what I am implying is that it'll do a poor job of accurate sound reproduction. It appeals to the Bose-type crowd not by necessarily having NO function, which it certainly does, but by putting asthetics before it's intended purpose, audio.

It's like buying a crappy KVM switch and then having to live with ghosting on your monitor. Sure, it still works, but not as well and costs you more money, although it may save a bit of hassle.

Even if you get some super cool wireless product, you're still mounting the speakers on the wall. Unless designed with that in mind, and most aren't, the sound quality will suffer. General guidelines are to position the speaker about 24 inchees from any boundries. This includes TVs and walls.

These speakers were designed to be mounted on the walls. They come with the wall brackets and everything. I wish I could find a pic of them, but I can't.
