Philips has applied for a patent on remote controlled pills. Yeah, you read that right…remote…controlled…pills. Yikes.

The electronics company Philips has come up with a remote-controlled pill with a cavity for carrying a drug which can be opened by a remote signal. The passage of the pill can be followed by MRI or ultrasound and the drug dispensed with an electronic trigger at the appropriate location.

OK at this point, it's getting really hard to say there isn't a cure for AIDS yet.

Its relatively easy to understand machines. Man can easily come up with an endless array of artificial phenomena. I honestly don't see why they didn't come up with remote pills earlier, considering the advancements in nano particles...

It's the biological stuff that brings mankind to its knees. :D
 
Philips hopes the pills can be made cheaply enough to be disposable, so they need not be collected and recycled after use.

Sounds like diabetes sufferers may not have to inject their insulin for much longer. :)
 
I remember reading about this in highschool. They're just now patenting it?

There's a chance they don't have to now. My dad is actually in a program right now where the insulin is inhaled. He has a kit and everything.
 
If the pills can be made to deliver the appropriate dosage of the correct medicine at the right time and the right place then I can see a use for this technology.

At its current incarnation, I have my doubts as to its usefulness at this time.
 
Drug companies toolbag. HMOs don't want you to see you, ever. Period. Take your 1000 bux a month and snuff it but and hope you "thrive" and never get ill lest they be forced to spend some of it on you.
 
So we have the Blue Pill, The Red Pill, The [H]ard Pill, and now the Remote Pill??
