I am looking for a Remote assistance and Inventory management program for a medium sized business. We have about 40 PC users and right now all I can do is use the remote assistance or netmeeting on their machines. It is now a mixed environment with Win 7/ XP and I don't have a good solution.

I want something that will give me a managment console so I can view all the machines and maybe inventory of their hardware specs, etc.

The biggest feature should be the ability to do remote assistance (log into their open session so I don't boot them out of the machine.)

Can anyone suggest a good product in the $500-$1500 range?

I like Logmein but would rather not go through the cloud to manage these clients that are all local.

Lansweeper.com

Freebie version does good inventory, paid version has remote control (aka VNC one click or something like that)

Are the computers in the same network as you or not? I used one before that was, ok.. The inventory part was good, but the remote connection wasn't so much.

You can do this for free with Spiceworks for inventory and VNC for remote access.
Things get more complicated if you are dealing with remote computers etc though

SCCM would be perfect in this scenario except for a few things.

1. It would be insanely overkill
2. It would be more expensive than many other solutions
3. It is a paint to setup and troubleshoot

I hate you WMI so bad!

everything is modular, so you can get the components you need and not the ones you don't.
it could be good or bad, depending on what you need.
i will say that i did not like their remote access part though. it was vnc and java based, really slow and temperamental.

for remote access, i am surprised as how well pushvnc works in some domains/situations. small and free.
