to my surprise formatting your drive will not erase the hidden "$RECYCLE.BIN" folder on your hard drives....because it is password protected for each user... its not just on your OS drive but any drive...external...storage or what ever

you can basically format your drive...click on options on the explorer and folder options then enable "view hidden shares". and it will still be there, if you click in it you can view pics, docs or w/e you deleted.

That's why you don't format your drives before selling them - you secure erase them.......

I would suggest DBAN for any drives you plan on selling.
