You got your first 17 inch CRT and your buddy only had that 15 inch to work on??? I was talking with a friend about this tonight and it made me laugh. Because I do remember going from 15 to 17 and thinking that was the S%&$.

Then I went to work for a company that did some CAD work and I saw my first Viewsonic 21 inch monitor and I think I actually came.... I had to move my head to see the whole screen?? What is that?? And it being so big seemed to make it run faster, even though it was still back in the original Pentium days... I had a 166MHz at home and I forgot the speed of this machine, but it was a real Pentium PRO....

I finally was able to get a good deal on a Viewsonic 21 inch monitor in 2001.... It weighed a full ton and it was not a flat screen, it had a slight curve, but I had climbed the monitor mountain and it was good. I eventually got a 21 inch Trinitron with a new PC from dell.... now that PC from dell had a new card that was released the day I ordered the system and was cheaper than the NVidia option and the one review I found said it was fast, so I got the full on 9700Pro and that was a good day.

I thought about this because of an Ad I got from CircuitCity in my e-mail... Yes I like to see if there maybe some small part or thing I want or need... and there was an offer for a 20 inch widescreen, LED backlit for 99 dollars.... I was thinking its a little small but not bad... until I saw the resolution... 1600x900.... couldn't be 1050, they had to do the proverbial real 16x9 screen size, right down to the resolution...

Once I saw that, I realized that for most of us here at hardocp that would be a backroom server monitor hooked to a KVM or something....

But does anyone else remember the day that you moved up from 14 to 15 to 17 to 19 and so on???

Tell me I wasn't alone in my thoughts....

I remember buying my first LCD. It was a 17" display, and cost me $550 (I was a senior in high school). I'll never forget showing up to the Fedex depot to pick it up, I had a heart monitor strapped to my waist, and walked with a limp as I'd had heart surgery earlier that week. Prior to that, I was rocking a used 17" CRT I got from somewhere.
 
I hate these topics, they make me feel old.
I remember when I was in a lab with 10-15 15" monitors or smaller (16 colors) hooked up to one 5.25" floppy..
 
late adopter here. I had a 14.1 inch crt, followed by a 14.1 inch LCD for the longest time. Sometime around 2002 i got a 15 inch IBM R51 and i thought it was huge. After it's short 6 month lifetime - engineering fault, it set itself on fire, mine was the first to go, but my whole workplace's R51's went up shortly after - i went back to a 14.1 flatscreen.

Then 2007 hit. My dad got two Dell 24 inch flatscreens. I had to have one, and in 2008 i got my dell 2408WFP rev02. Very sad the inverter died. Its sitting in the box waiting for repairs. Huge 10 inch jump for me. And now i salivate over 27" 120hz screens haha.
 
it's funny that you mention this. Because today I have bought my first monitor ever, a samsung 2333t. I always managed to get by with pass on monitors or just bought laptops. Never had a screen bigger than 17". but i had to bend for the 16:9 which I really hate.

Good ol´ times, i got them both, 17" and 15", sweet.

Later i got a 21" for main screen, and 17" was a secondary, but got no photos of these. But can remember that 21" was quite a heat source in my tinytiny student apartment. =) Specially in summer times.=)

Have tried a bunch of screens over the years. The largest was a 40 inch LCD 1080P panel I had taken from a television. It had its charms...
 
I remember using a 12" green screened monitor at work for years. Boy how my color crt was worlds better
