what tv manufacturers are reliable yet cheap. Better yet, what tv models, are the aforementioned, but i must be able to purchase it at costco. I need one 32 in, and a 42-52 inch?

please feel free to give me any recommendations as long as you have support. Im also looking for information on which companies make their tvs cheaply, and are unreliable.

A direct answer to your first question would be Vizio probably, a decent mid-tier manufacturer. Like any other manufacturer they've had their good models, and bad ones.

But If you're willing to do your own research, and not just rely on a few opinions, then def check out the AVS forums.

Otherwise the top tier names are (in no particular order): Panasonic, Pioneer, Samsung, Sharp, LG, Sony, Toshiba ... and maybe one or two others but that about covers it.

yea but my cousin said that sharp is crap and LG is amazing and he has a bachelor in electrical engineering. Although im sure LG is amazing it is quite pricy. Which of those top tier names are the best?

The description "crap" and "amazing" are vague blanket statemets that don't tell the whole story. In late 2007 the Sharps were amazing and LG's were crap (ask the bestbuy employees how many LG returns they had in 2007-2008). In 2008 certain Sharp models had a problem with Banding, but i hear it's not as big of a problem with their newest models.

Quality can vary a lot between different model numbers from the same MFR so try to avoid cluttering your mind with words like "crap" and "amazing" ;). Not really sure which one is the best btw, maybe the Pioneer Kuro model line?

The easiest way to research in your situation would be to get the model numbers from Costco, then plug them into the search bar at AVS, and read what professional consumers have to say.

Have fun with the new toys either way, and remember that researching is part of the fun :)

good advice and thank you, i appreciate the advice but dislike the labor

:)

You will learn some good info by researching this that you can use to help friends/family.
A bit like your friend who tried to help you, only you will know what you are talking about ;)

I would have to agree with these comments... i had a friend who also was looking to buy a tv from costco and the ones I recommended was the Panasonic 800U or Pioneer Kuro 5020

By no means are these cheap but are probably best plasmas out there right now.

You might want to also determine if you want to go plasma or LCD. I would determine your needs and pick one since each has their own strength and weaknesses

the porblem is that ive had a quite few annoyances with previous plasma models which ive seen that have influenced my desicion negativly. 1st, everytime i see a resident plasma=glare, second the blub dies like 10 times faster and i sleep w/ tv sometimes.

You do need to research more ;)
The Panasonic PZ80x series have a display halflife of 100,000 hrs, thats way longer than any other technology except laser!
I dont understand what you mean by Plasma glare.
If it was from a cheaper brand Plasma, you need to re-evaluate that by looking at the better brand Plasmas.

ps I am using a 1080p Panasonic 42PZ80B, awesome display!

I'm uk based so my prices arent that relative.
A few months back, the US versions were going for well under $700.
You can always check.
