Release Trends for Nvidia Cards

I've never paid any attention to GPU release trends, so I am currently wondering on what the market value will be for 7 series GPU's when the 8 series comes out.

When the 8 series gets released, will the 7 series value drop? and If it does, usually by what margin and how long of a time span?

I'd like to hear your opinions and if you have any proofs you'd like to present, please do so :)

Thanks!

You might see some flash sales when the new GPU's get near, but nothing unlike what we're seeing already.
There won't be a price cut. If anything the old cards will be more expensive than their newer counterparts.

You are asking on a forum because you don't want to do the research yourself.
Don't expect proofs...

It really depends on the market and how the new series will fit into the existing product lineup.
There can be some good deals on cards that are getting outright replaced but typically that is only to decrease the retailers inventory.

once the cards are discontinued they usually bottom out till retailers sell out...then the price actually climbs back up a bit...if you need a card right now...its not a bad time

I won't lie. I've just never paid attention the price trends as I've only ever bought 3 video cards in the past 8 years.

Nvidia is famous for not dropping prices. You really really need to time the buying moment just right. As things stand now I can almost guarantee Nvidia isn't making very many 600 Series cards, so that by the time the 800 Series drops stocks of 600 cards will be elevated and the prices may drop during special periods. Then as others have said, the prices will actually rise up and stay there (supply and demand).

The 700 Series on the other end will co-exist with the 800 Series for a little while and you will probably see some price drops and good deals for the next year after. It depends on the performance that the next generation brings. The 680 was actually more expensive than the exact same card (slightly better) 770 when it launched. In fact it took a long time for the 680 prices to even drop which really confuses things even more.

The only statement I would say you can bet on with Nvidia is: Buy the best card you can afford at the moment you plan on buying.

Expect nothing from them. If AMD can't even force them to drop their prices then nothing will at this point.
