Relay Kit and Hydor L30

I have a relay kit that came with my swiftech kit and I was wondering if I could use it with a Hydor L30 pump.

Would I just cut the wire open on the pump, expose the wires and hook them up to the appropriate connections on the relay kit and socket?

I filled the system with my newly arrived Hydor L30 (just by plugging it directly into the wall for now of course) and my bay res. Well a damn bay res system is hard to fill, I still don't really understand how I even did it.

Hydor L30 seems quiet, but I am still leak testing and I don't have the system fully back together yet so I won't say for sure it's quiet. I will however report later with pics.

I also got water everywhere for the first time because my hoses evidently weren't in my swiftech block all that well and it leaked there the first attempt to fill. I also got water everywhere due to the bay res (stanky but swanky items those buggers are). Now that its all up and running and isn't leaking though it seems to be pretty cool and hopefully maintenance to the system goes smoother than the installation did.

The relay that comes with the swiftech kits. Are there more than one kind that come with the swiftech kits?

Heh, I suppose I could've looked to see if they had more than one relay.

Anyways, yeah it'll work. Just cut off the plug-end of the cord to expose the individual wires. Their instruction are nicely color coded, so it ought be pretty easy.

From my experience with the L30....my first pump didn't last very long with me switching it on and off whenever I started my system...or I should say..the impellar started making a racket after about a month of switching on and off...Replaced pump under warranty and the guys at CoolTechnica said run it 24/7... almost two tears later and still going strong....maybe I just had bad luck the first time

Don't cut up your pump's power cord! Plug your pump into a cheap extension cord and cut that up instead.

ohhhhh that's a good one. I will surely try that first if I go to do this, but if I should run the pump 24/7 then I might as well just plug it in to the wall and just let it run all the time. I don't really have any need to shut my pc off.

It won't be a problem if my pc ever got shut off and the pump continued to run would it?

Shouldn't be a problem. Any time my parents house had a brownout or something (about twice a week), my old 120v pump would stay on/turn back on, but the computer would turn off. It never caused a problem. The pump warms the water a little bit, but not enough to matter.

The only problem leaving the stuff on all the time is that it might raise the electric bill some. But seeing as most of the younger people still live at home or in a dorm, it doesn't effect them as they don't pay the bills............. Their parents do. Boy was I glad when my kids grew up and left the house, the electric bill was cut in half..............

I let my L30 run 24/7, no problems. Strated making horrible noises after 5 mo or so that really sucked. I have read this is a common problem with the pump. I would not buy one agin.
