I am trying to find a heatsink/fan to cool a Barton core Athlon 3000+. I wont be overclocking, but I will be playing games... possibly for extended periods of time.

Additionally it will be on a MSI KT4V motherboard so that removes the large Zalman heatsinks.

In terms of noise it should be pretty low, but does not have to be totally silent.

So far searches have come up with the ThermalTake Silent Boost, but I am slighlty skeptical of thermaltake's ability to produce quality products.

Suggestions?

i'm currently running a barton 3000+ with the thermaltake silentboost youre looking at. its a pretty high quality heatsink, but the fan is pretty crappy. im using a panaflow L1A - it is virtually silent and keeps my cpu at the same temp as the fan on the silentboost - the silentboost fan is not silent at all. the only catch is that i'm having huge temp problems, ive been getting 60c from the on-die sensor. but maybe its something else, the heatsink is not warm to the touch.

i hope you can get something out of that.. :D

have a look at the thermalright alx800, they are nice and cheap and you can choose the fan
